Supplement FAQs

Supplement FAQs

Practical answers to common supplement questions, with links to the guides where you can explore each topic in more detail.

Choosing supplements

Where should I start?

Start with the practical need you want to address. Read the relevant guide, then compare product labels rather than building a large routine immediately.

Do I need lots of supplements for the gym?

No. Decide what your meals and training already cover, then consider whether one specific product would make your routine more practical.

Which protein powder should I choose?

Begin with dietary requirements, protein per serving, flavour and value. Read our protein powder guide.

Where can I compare creatine types?

Our creatine guide explains monohydrate and HCl, powder and capsules, and how to choose around your preferences, tolerance and routine.

How do I choose a pre-workout?

Read the stated amounts, caffeine declaration and warnings. Use our pre-workout guide to build a shortlist.

Labels and servings

Is a scoop the same as a serving?

Not always. A labelled serving may contain one or several scoops. Check the directions and match the nutrition panel to that amount.

Does 30 g of powder mean 30 g of protein?

No. Powder weight includes all ingredients. Use the stated protein amount in the nutrition panel.

Why compare per 100 g?

It can help compare powders with different serving sizes. Also check the serving you intend to use, because that is what you will actually consume.

Are all flavours nutritionally identical?

Do not assume so. Ingredients, allergens and nutrition can differ; check the panel for the exact flavour.

Are mg and micrograms interchangeable?

No. One milligram equals 1,000 micrograms. Match units before comparing amounts.

Can I work out each ingredient from a blend total?

Not reliably. A total blend weight does not disclose each individual ingredient amount.

Suitability and combining products

Does natural mean safe for everyone?

No. A natural description does not establish individual suitability. Read the ingredients and warnings.

Can I combine two products?

Check for repeated ingredients and amounts first. If suitability is uncertain, ask a qualified healthcare professional.

Can I use supplements while taking medication?

Check with your pharmacist or clinician before use. Have the full product label available so they can assess the actual ingredients.

What if a supplement makes me feel unwell?

Stop taking it and seek medical advice. Do not try to resolve the reaction by experimenting with the amount. UK guidance.

Does vegan mean allergen-free?

No. Check the full allergen statement separately. Vegan suitability is not an allergen guarantee.

Value and storage

Is a cheaper tub better value?

Compare the cost for an equivalent serving or amount. Use our comparison guide for a worked example.

How should I store supplements?

Follow the specific product's storage instructions. Keep the original packaging so the directions, warnings and date remain available.

Can I buy a small size to try a flavour?

Check the listed sizes and our protein samples and sachets collection where available.

Why might the label differ from an older picture?

Manufacturers may change formulas or packaging. Use the current pack instructions and ask for clarification if the product information is inconsistent.

Does independent testing mean zero risk?

No. Check what a testing scheme covers and the relevant batch record. Competitive athletes should seek sport-specific advice.
